Traders and shoppers are being urged to flock to Hythe's Tuesday market - eight months after New Forest District Council saved it from closure.

In July last year, it was feared the market would have to close when the previous operator pulled out.

The market was saved by NFDC in response to a strong petition from traders and shoppers and is now looking to attract more stalls.

The market's 30 stalls sell a variety of goods and produce and provide valuable business for traders and additional custom for local shops.

Cllr Jeremy Heron, the council's portfolio holder for economy and planning at NFDC is thrilled that the market can continue trading at Hythe's commercial heart.

"The market is very important to people in Hythe and there is a strong demand and determination to keep the market running," he said.

"In partnership with Hythe and Dibden town council, this council is intent on making this venture develop.

"We are encouraging old traders to return, and new traders to set up stalls."

Andy Groom, valuer at New Forest District Council said: "Hythe's Tuesday market is very much here to stay and open for business.

"We are determined to make sure the market continues to grow and provides a valuable service to the community."

Anyone interested in setting up a stall should contact the market manager, Gary Brown, on 07850 399 781.
