Residents in the New Forest are being urged to adopt a healthier lifestyle as the council's leisure centres take a new shape.
New Forest District Council has changed the name of its recreation centres to health and leisure to reflect the benefits gained from exercise and raise awareness of the different courses, activities and facilities available in the Forest.
All of the council's five health and leisure centres are equipped with modern fitness gyms, health suites, studios and swimming pools
A range of programmes and courses has also been introduced aimed at boosting people's fitness and wellbeing.
NFDC has been working closely with New Forest Primary Care Trust on a range of health prevention and rehabilitation programmes for patients, including healthy horizons and cardiac rehabilitation.
The aim of the courses is to gradually improve people's fitness and introduce them to regular exercise.
Each centre is run by fully qualified instructors who provide advice, exercise routines, fitness assessments, and ensure safety.
Cllr Barry Rickman, portfolio holder for leisure at NFDC said: "I'm very pleased we're able to provide such a wide range of courses, activities and facilities for people living in the New Forest.
"Let's hope the new name will encourage people to visit their local health and leisure centre and find out about the different services and courses on offer."
Cllr Maureen Holding, portfolio holder for health and social inclusion at NFDC said: "Exercise helps boost health and contributes to feelings of wellbeing.
"I'm delighted we're able to provide modern facilities for people of all ages and abilities who wish to choose a healthy lifestyle." |
