The New Forest Business Partnership has appointed a new chairman, Christine Ames, who succeeds Laurence Baughan in this key role.
Having been involved in the tourism industry for 20 years, she brings a wealth of experience to her new position, along with hands-on knowledge of the issues faced by the local business community.
Christine, who joined the board of the partnership in 2002, is looking forward to taking the chair and continuing to improve the relationship between business and local government and helping to build a stronger economy in the New Forest.
"I am delighted to be taking over the chairmanship of this important partnership.
With more than 5,000 businesses and 75,000 working people in the district, the health of the local economy is an important issue which needs strong representation," she said.
Christine attended her first official engagement at the New Forest Show last week when the Business Partnership held an informal networking evening at the New Forest District Council stand.
She was one of more than 50 local business people who came to the event, along with decision-makers from the council.
Christine first came to the New Forest in 1988 when she moved with her family to Ashurst and set up a bed and breakfast business.
In 1998 she became a partner in Ormonde House Hotel in Lyndhurst.
She is also a registrar of marriages in the New Forest.
She was first executive secretary of New Forest Tourism Association from 1988 -1999 and was chairman of New Forest Tourism Association between 2001-2004.
In her new role Christine will be working alongside the partnership's new vice-chairman, Barry Olorenshaw, owner of local commercial property development company, PRIAM.
