Esso and ExxonMobil Chemical's support for
projects in the local community
was praised by New Forest District Council leader Mel Kendal recently.
Cllr Kendal gave a vote of thanks to Fawley Refinery Manager Tom Katinas and
colleagues at a yearly liaison meeting between councillors and Esso and
ExxonMobil senior executives on Wednesday 24 November.
Cllr Kendal especially thanked the company for its support for the New
Forest District Council youth festival, held at Appletree Court, Lyndhurst,
in September.
Generous sponsorship from Esso and ExxonMobil had made the
festival a reality and over 2,000 young people had benefited as a result, he
said.
The meeting heard how Esso and ExxonMobil Chemical Ltd also sponsor a large
number of projects in the community and encourage employees to volunteer
with local groups, for example, by becoming school governors or after school
sports coaches.
As the New Forest's largest employer, this contribution
to
the local community was recognised and appreciated, said Cllr Kendal.
Representatives at the meeting also heard a detailed breakdown of Esso and
ExxonMobil Chemical's attempts to reduce noise nuisance from the Fawley
Refinery's CAT Cracker and of regular monitoring of air quality in the
Fawley area.
"Esso and ExxonMobil reported exceptional business results to district
council representatives at the meeting, and is to be congratulated on these
results," said Cllr Kendal.
"It was gratifying to learn more about some of the community projects that
Esso and ExxonMobil are involved in, and to hear that the refinery is taking
sound measures to improve safety and security and to reduce the ongoing
problem of noise under certain weather conditions.
The company is employing
a specialist advisor from the USA in order to provide the district council
with a report on matters relating to noise, in response to some of the
questions raised."
