Many came in fancy dress with poignant messages on their backs, many were running in memory of loved ones and some were cancer survivors.

Some were running in memory of those they lost to cancer, many had the words "Gran", "Mum" or "Dad" or "Grandad" on their backs.

Every woman was intent on making it round the 5km course that covered Southampton Common and a stretch of The Avenue, whether they ran or walked.

Lou Jones said, "Emotions ran high as we all turned into the Avenue, there was no traffic, just a sea of women, a time for reflection"

Sue King, Secretary at Fawley Parish Council said "it was a very emotional run for all of us, I look forward to doing it again in the future".
