It’s out with boring black and in with the pink as New Forest District Council adds a daring dash of colour to its household waste collection scheme.
We’re proud to be pink here at NFDC with our brand new rubbish bags, which allow useful new cost saving messages to be printed on the plastic.
The new pink bags will still be delivered in the same way as usual, and have to be put out at normal collection times.
Householders can also still use black rubbish bags for waste matter if they have some spare ones or if they purchase these elsewhere.
But the council is asking householders to ‘think pink’ by making sure that recyclable materials, such as paper, cardboard, tins, cans and plastic bottles, don’t go in the new pink bags and instead are placed in the clear plastic recycling bags as usual.
Cllr Michael Thierry, NFDC’s portfolio holder for environment, said the new pink bags would have several advantages over the old black rubbish bags.
“The new pink bags allow us to print messages on the plastic, so that we can save money on advertising important information for householders.
“The first message we will be printing on the new bags will be about this year’s Christmas refuse arrangements.
“And pink is a very distinctive colour, so it won’t be so easy for people to trip over the bags in the street.”
Rubbish and recycling collection times will not change and glass bottles and jars and old textiles can still be taken to the nearest recycling centre.
