More
than 100 energetic young people from schools across the forest
were put through their paces at this year's New Forest Primary
Schools Sportshall
Championships.
Pupils from 15 primary schools competed in a range of activities, including
sprinting, relay races, long jump and ball games.
The event, which was held on November 13 at Applemore health and leisure
centre, was organised by New Forest Primary Schools Sport Group and New
Forest District Council.
New Forest Junior Athletics Club supplied officials for the day.
The young athletes, aged between 9 and 11, trained for the event and were
cheered on by their parents and teachers.
Blackfield Junior School were crowned champions scoring 318 points and
Abbotswood Junior School came a close second with 268.
"It is good to see so many young people come together to compete in a
friendly competition," said Cllr Barry Rickman, NFDC's portfolio holder for
leisure. "The energy and enthusiasm showed by them was tremendous."
"Congratulations to Blackfield Junior School and well done to all the pupils
who took part. New Forest Junior Athletic Club and its volunteers put in a lot
of hard
work to make sure everyone enjoyed themselves. I look forward to even more
events like this for young people in the
forest."
The next school sports event will be a tag rugby competition at Ballard
School on February 4 2005.
