A washing machine and a television will be formally arrested for criminal
waste of energy in a dramatic swoop on Hythe Market on Tuesday 19 October.
The 'police' from Southampton Environment Centre will make the arrests just
before national Energy Efficiency Week to make the point that it is wrong
to waste energy.
New Forest District Council green team will also be at Hythe Market to give
out information on insulation grants for lofts and walls.
They will hand out
top energy-saving tips.
They will point out that saving energy means saving money on fuel bills and
that using less energy helps to combat climate change which causes extreme
weather patterns.
"Anything that helps us all to be aware of saving energy is a good idea,"
said Cllr Maureen Holding, NFDC portfolio holder for health and social
inclusion. "I am delighted that the Environment Centre have come up with a
fun idea that makes a serious point".
Energy Efficiency Week runs from October 25-31, with events throughout
Hampshire.
